Godzilla Raids Again (1955) Review
Today I am reviewing a movie that often falls on deaf ears, and that movie is Godzilla Raids Again, known stateside as Gigantis, the Fire Monster.
Acting much as the Son of Kong of the Godzilla series, Godzilla Raids Again made many historical landmarks in the franchise. One of these landmarks was Godzilla’s first battle.
Two main fights take place in the movie, one on a cliff, and another in Osaka. Both fights include the kaiju Anguirus, and show the ferocity of both monsters. It turns out that each monsters speed and agility are due to a mistake. One of the crew members accidentally sped up the film of the monster fight, instead of slowing it down, causing the monsters to fight more realistically and viciously, Eiji Tsubaraya, the special effects genius behind Godzilla, decided to keep this mistake, but it would not show in other movies.
Obviously, this movie also makes history as being the first sequel in the entire Godzilla, series, and also, the last one to be in black and white.
The plot mostly revolves around Godzilla;’s return, and how to get rid of him. As always, I’m not giving anything away, but it is definitely worth watching, I give it a 8.5/10.
