G (2008) Review
Today I will be reviewing one of my favorite kaiju films of all time, G! Running at a very short 48 minutes, that is all the time it takes to tell the movie’s excellent story!
G starts out with a flashback, of three men, 2 of them being our main characters, Goro and Garaemon. They are soldiers, are vastly outnumbered, the other soldier is shot mercilessly, and they barely surviving the assault. The two vow to make an item that shall make for less soldier casualties on the battlefield. Garaemon makes a serum that supposedly heals wounds, and Goro makes a giant battle robot.
We cut to present, day, while Goro and another man are having a conversation in a building. Garaemon is not even 100 yards away, yet the two are completely unaware that his lab is being raided! Garaemon gives himself his untested serum, and rapidly mutates.
Goro walks into the lab, to see a horribly mutated Garaemon, who soon mutates into a kaiju, which rampages through Tokyo.
I don’t want to give too much away, but the film is amazing, and when Robo comes into play, it only gets better. 3 scenes in this movie mesmerized me because of the giant mech.
The acting is hit and miss, yet Goro’s performance was extremely powerful. You need to see this film if you haven’t already. I give it a strong 9.5/10. (Forgive the review’s shortness.)
